Ms. Buchinger graduated, magna cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville in 1986, and obtained her law degree, with honors, from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1989.
Since graduating from law school, Ms. Buchinger worked in a small law firm in Sheboygan for five years, specializing in Family Law, Bankruptcy and Small Business law. In 1993, Ms. Buchinger became the Director of the Calumet County Child Support Agency in Chilton, Wisconsin. She left in 1997 to become the Court Commissioner for Manitowoc County, returning to Calumet County as Corporation Counsel and Child Support Director in 1998. She opened her practice in August of 2005, serving the Fox River Valley in Family law, Small Business law, and Zoning law.
Ms. Buchinger is a member of the Winnebago County Bar Association, the Wisconsin State Bar Association and is the Administrator of Project Linus, Winnebago / Outagamie Chapter. She is a past member of the Kaukauna Catholic School System Board, Family Services Board of Directors, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and the Mead Public Library Board of Directors.
Ms. Buchinger is a strong proponent of cooperative divorce, believing that both parties are much better off if they are involved in setting the terms of their new relationship. However, if litigation is needed, Ms. Buchinger has more than 20 years of courtroom experience and will aggressively represent her client's and the children's rights.
The majority of Attorney Melody Buchinger's practice is focused on helping people with collaborative divorces, cooperative divorces and contested divorces, which often involve child custody disputes, obtaining child support orders and negotiating or litigating marital property settlements. Attorney Buchinger also frequently represents people who wish to petition the courts for a guardianship, such as a guardianship for adult children over disabled parents, for parents over incapacitated adult children and for grandparents over minor grandchildren.
In numerous child custody cases in which Attorney Melody Buchinger does not represent one of the spouses, she has been appointed to serve as a Guardian ad Litem (frequently referred to as a GAL). A Guardian ad Litem represents the best interests of the child or children in a custody dispute.
